One Company. One Mission. Two Amazing Services.

Have you ever made a career change and wondered if it was the right decision? What if that decision changed your life forever? Would you do it?

We cannot predict the future but how do you know whether or not you like something if you have never tried it. Most people make decisions and form opinions based solely on someone else’s beliefs, however, this can rob us of having our own.

I am sharing this with you because it’s important that you understand how I discovered my purpose and why I am so passionate about what we do today. I was twenty-two years old with a bachelor’s degree working as a financial advisor in Dallas, Texas. After spending four years in college pursuing this “dream job,” I was just three months in and hated it. Now, what am I supposed to do with the rest of my life?

I quickly realized that I had probably just wasted four years of my life pursuing something I thought I loved only to find out I could not wait to quit. Then by the grace of God and through Divine intervention, I received a phone call from my father in Florida, who was aware of my discouragement. He informed me that his lawyer friend foreclosed on a property in Port Charlotte, FL, which his friend had taken possession of and was looking to sell. There was just one problem. It was 2011 and there were no buyers at the time. He said his friend was willing to hold the note on the property if I was interested in opening an assisted living facility in its place.

As if God knew I needed another push, I learned that my high school friend’s father, Greg, had recently opened a small residential assisted living facility north of Orlando. I reached out to him to learn more about the industry.

I didn’t even know what an assisted living facility was at the time. All I knew was that I hated my current job, had an opportunity in front of me, and needed to make a decision. The next day, I put my two-week’s notice in and moved back to Florida.

Once we moved back to Florida, I went straight to Greg’s residential assisted living facility to see if this was something I could see myself doing. I had never worked in the senior care industry before so I was not sure what to expect. However, I decided to come with an open mind and when I got there that day, I was introduced to a gentleman named Ray. Greg informed me that Ray was suffering from cancer so we were going to help him with a shower and then get him and everyone else to the table at which point we would begin breakfast. I helped serve breakfast, lunch, and dinner, we played cards and talked on the back porch! I had an absolutely wonderful time and before I knew it the day was over.

When I was leaving Greg’s place, I realized that assisted living is less medical and more hospitality-focused than I was expecting it would be. I also realized that I had always enjoyed spending time with my grandparents making them laugh and smile. I had a real passion for making a difference in seniors’ lives but I did not realize it could be my life’s purpose. I left that day feeling extremely inspired that we could make a huge difference in senior care.

Therefore, we moved forward with the purchase of this foreclosed assisted living facility. My wife, Chelsea (20), and I (22) were newly married and moving into our first home together, a 12-bed assisted living facility. Who would have ever known that we would literally come back from our honeymoon and spend the next 3+ years sharing our home with ten amazing adopted grandparents. We did everything from helping with showers, making meals, doing activities, medication reminders, housekeeping, laundry, and much more. This was just the beginning of Chelsea Place Senior Care, which I named after my beautiful wife, Chelsea.

Who could have ever imagined that one decision would have such an incredible impact on someone’s life. The best part of this entire experience is that I realized two extremely important things: (1) I love working with and helping seniors, whether, it is doing activities, playing games, or making them laugh and smile. (2) I realized that I also loved helping their families navigate the complex world of senior care.

It was an extremely confusing road with a lot of obstacles and uncertainties, but it led me to find my life’s purpose. This journey helped me discover the person I always wanted to be.

In 2017-2018, we opened a Daytime Senior Care & Activities center, which is just 5 minutes away from our assisted living facility. We currently have over 70 members who absolutely love coming to our center each week. This has to be one of the most life-changing experiences for our members and their families. The transformation that we see in our seniors’ lives is amazing.

Also, we recently opened an in-home care agency to help meet the needs of those who still live at home but may need a little assistance. The combination of these three services has created an amazing synergy which is extremely helpful to families who are transitioning through the care continuum.

Whether you or your loved one can benefit from personalized in-home care, fun at our senior activities center or the best care in assisted living, we are here to help you! Whatever your senior care need is, we are one company with one mission and two amazing services!
