BREAKING: Dozens of Seniors Go Missing Across Sarasota County
Dozens of Seniors go Missing… Authorities Find Them at Unexpected Location
SARASOTA, FL — Panic briefly swept through local neighborhoods this week as dozens of seniors were reported missing from their homes, condos, and communities. Friends and family feared the worst.
But after a swift “investigation,” the mystery was solved — and the outcome was far more cheerful than anyone expected.
They weren’t lost… they were just having the time of their lives at ActivAge.
Authorities were tipped off when one neighbor, concerned about her friend Doris not answering her phone, spotted her in a Facebook Live video dancing to Jimmy Buffett and eating coconut shrimp at what looked suspiciously like a beachside luau.
“I thought she’d been kidnapped,” her daughter said. “Turns out, she was just at ActivAge Sarasota, doing chair Zumba and sipping a mocktail out of a pineapple.”
Not a Disappearance — a Daycation!
The senior “disappearances” began as early as 8:00 AM Monday morning, when longtime resident Harold was last seen boarding what looked like a tropical shuttle bus. By 4:00 PM, he was spotted again — only this time, he was dressed as Elvis carrying prizes from a beanbag toss tournament he had won.
“It’s like Club Med for grandparents,” said one grandchild. “Except cooler. And with bottomless “virgin” margaritas and pina coladas.”
Local officials say no charges will be filed.
“We can confirm no one is missing,” a Sarasota sheriff’s spokesperson said. “They just found ActivAge… and they weren’t looking back.”
A Place Where Seniors “Want” to Go Missing
ActivAge, dubbed the “Ultimate Daycation Destination,” is an award-winning adult day center known for its tropical Margaritaville-style atmosphere, daily live entertainment, and themed adventures each month.
What began as a concern has now sparked curiosity — and quite the interest from family caregivers across Sarasota County.
“I thought my dad was losing interest in everything,” said one family member. “Now he’s got a full social calendar and keeps asking me to ‘check him in’ like he’s going to the Ritz!”
